Past Voting Record of Council re Multi-Res Property Taxes

Motion 1: May 23, 2001, Motion to reduce the multi-residential tax ratio from 2.3359 to 2.1780. [PASSED]
Motion 2: April 24, 2002, Motion to reduce the multi-residential tax ratio to 2.0 for 2002. [DEFEATED]
Motion 3: April 24, 2002, Motion to maintain the current tax ratios for 2002, to develop a plan that would reflect equality in the tax burden between residential and multi-residential, to develop an implementation plan to maximize flow-through to the tenants, and that staff include in the 2003 budget directions document provision for future adjustments in the multi-residential tax ratio. [PASSED]
Motion 4: May 14, 2003, Motion for a plan to reduce the tax ratio for multi-residential properties to 1.8 by the year 2005. [DEFEATED]
Motion 5: May 14, 2003, Motion to adopt the staff recommendation that in each future year, the multi-residential tax ratio be reduced by transferring sufficient burden so that the automatic rent reduction will be triggered. [PASSED]
Motion 6: May 12, 2004, Motion to adopt the Committee recommendation to maintain the multi- residential tax ratio at 2.152. [PASSED]
Motion 7: May 11, 2005, City Council adopted the staff report leaving the multi-residential tax ratio at 2.152 [PASSED] (There was no roll call vote, and therefore no votes to record below.)
Motion 8: April 18, 2006, Motion at the Corporate Services and Economic Development (CSED) committee, to recommend the staff report to City Council. In effect, that is to recommend a reduction in the tax ratio to 1.8. (Councillors with blanks opposite their names are not on the CSED committee.)[PASSED] On April 26, City Council approved the CSED recommendation without a recorded vote with Councillor Jellett dissenting.
